FASHION NEWS: What I've been missing this past month...

I have been so busy this entire month, I feel like I need to catch up on some fashion news... What about you?

Liv Tyler, Clemence Poesy, and The Sartorialist's photographer Scott Schuman among others will be featured in Gap's Fall 2008 campaign out this summer.

Agent Provocateur launched its new bridal line ("White Wedding") campaign ad and it features model Kate Moss in a series of interesting, horror-themed ad campaigns. Wow, and here I thought wedding lingerie should be more romantic.

Coke gets all glamed up thanks to Patricia Field's limited-edition Coke City Collection bottles, exclusively sold at Selfridges. Now you can drink Coke approved by Sex and the City's stylist. Yay!

Take a sneak peek at Lauren Conrad's Summer in the City line. Besides the Carrie Dress, I say it looks just like all her other lines.

More drama! Victoria Beckham is suing Rock & Republic for approximately $100 million in loss earnings for her dVb denim line. $100 million? Really?

The excitement of Sex and the City: The Movie is in the air. You can even Cosabella's lingerie inspired by Sex and the City. Just like their characters, Carrie's collection includes flirty florals while Samantha's is feminine and sexy, Charlotte's is innocent and Miranda's is bold.

Marie Claire offered Nina Garcia a job recently! Supposedly, she will be replacing Tracy Taylor, the current fashion director at the magazine. But other drama has risen up and now no one knows what Nina's doing. According to a spokesman from The Weinstein Co., she and Michael Kors are still in the midst of contract negotiations with Project Runway's season 5 and 6.

Gap launched a limited-edition artist t-shirt collection, out in stores and online on May 15. Artists include Chuck Close, Jeff Koons, Marilyn Minter, and Kiki Smith with t-shirt designs ranging from political messages to colorful abstract confections.

Trying super hard to be revamp itself, Wet Seal launched a fashion community on its website that allows fashionistas to create outfits, tag, share and purchase clothing through a personalized boutique. Oh, users can also rate and purchase other people's outfits. I can already see all the high schoolers pointing their browsers in this direction. Click here to watch a demo.

Seems like another celebrity has jumped on the designer wagon as Mischa Barton prepares to launch her own handbag collection, available to Londoners at John Lewis, Debenhams and Fenwicks stores starting early July. No word yet on if Mischa's vintage-inspired bags will hit the U.S.

Sears is in DESPERATE need for a makeover. So much so that they hired LL Cool J to spruce things up. Scheduled to be launched by the winter, LL Cool J for Sears will include embroidered jackets and tees complete with LL's lyrics. Right... cause his lyrics will achieve this makeover.

HELLO: Finally, back to the grind.

I've pretty much been away for the month of May and for that, I apologize. For half a second, I felt like deleting this blog, but as my boyfriend faithfully pointed out, I would've most likely kick myself a month later for doing so.

With that being said, for this point on, consider a steady flow of entries this week! Yay!

HELLO: "Hey you there! Are you with the press?"

Wednesday, May 14, 2008 2 comments

YEAH, I AM!!!

Ladies and gents, I am extremely thrilled to tell you that I have attended my first official fashion show as a... wait for it... REPORTER! *takes a bow* I had a press pass pinned to my lapel and everything! All I was missing was the hat, the trench coat and a pair of black, thick-rimmed eyeglasses. Come to think about it, that's actually a lot of stuff. At least I had a notepad, a pen and an extra pen. That's all a reporter really needs.

Oh, and good memory. SHIT!

As I was saying, I attended SF State's Runway 2008: Revolution tonight. Their Apparel Design and Merchandising department, in collaboration with the Student Fashion Association, puts on two fashion shows a year, one in the fall and one in the spring. This spring semester's theme was inspired by the unwanted changes going in today's society, hence the title Revolution.

Being at show tonight not as a spectator, but as a reporter, gave me the tingles. Honestly. I sat there, eyes glued to the stage, taking notes upon notes upon notes. My hand completely cramped up after the sixteenth designer line crossed the stage, resulting in unrecognizable handwriting, but I didn't care. I enjoyed being there. I enjoyed the fact that my hand was cramping and my ass was sore from sitting for an hour. It all felt RIGHT to me.

I choose not to bore you with details tonight. I am way too tired to write an extensive entry about my experience at the show. After all, I have been up 39 STRAIGHT hours doing school-related stuff without so much as a minute to lie down. End of the semester always tires me out and it just keeps getting worse and worse every year as new responsibilities start to pile up.

My arms completely gave out on me about fifteen minutes ago, but I still wanted to take the time tonight to express my happiness (my elation really) about crossing over that stupid threshold that's been holding me back all these years and finally realizing what I want to pursue in life. Crossing over that threshold has given me confidence in myself, confidence that I lost a couple years back, confidence that I used to have when I believed I had a purpose* to even have confidence. It fills my insides with warm and fuzzy things; I can't get over it.

Though today's achievements may be be viewed as little or insignificant to some (yes, haters, I can actually hear your laughs, giggles and high-picked insults through my boyfriend's laptop speakers), I am very glad PROUD of myself to know that I am taking a step in the right direction and on my own terms. I came home last night from the show's dress rehearsal so, so, so very excited, I spared absolutely no details in telling my boyfriend what happened, including who I interviewed, who I developed a crush on (she's a very talented designer who happens to be very cute) and who I accidentally wrote on with a black Sharpie marker. I'm totally sorry, by the way! The whole experience excited me so much, I talked for twenty straight minutes without pausing to take a breath. It is that kind of excitement that I want from life. It is that kind of excitement I thrive on.

All in all, you don't have to be happy for me. I'm happy for me.

Good night, all you fashionistas. Sleep well tonight. As for me, I'll be hibernating until afternoon tomorrow.

*Completely off-topic, but when I was typing out the word purpose, it totally came out as purse. My mind is obviously on shopping right now.

HELLO: A few words to live by.

Sunday, May 11, 2008 1 comments

I apologize for my superior lack of updates. I've been buried in school and internship work, I haven't been able to write one single entry last week. It also doesn't help that I've been sick in bed the entire day.

School finishes up this Wednesday and I have two finals next Monday. I'll definitely be able to squeeze in a couple of entries between then.

Until then, dress fabulously in a t-shirt.

YUCK: Heidi Montag wears her Chloe outfit twice in a week, so what?

, , Friday, May 2, 2008 1 comments

As People's StyleWatch and Just Jared points out, Heidi Montag wears the same outfit twice in one week, a cardinal sin for celebrities.

Hedi was first spotted wearing a Chloe “color block tank” dress and Chloe “strappy shoe” boots on April 19 at the launching of her clothing line, Heidiwood, at Kitson in Los Angeles.

A week later, April 26, girl sports the exact same outfit (including the same white watch!) at the at the White House Correspondents Dinner at the Hilton in Washington DC.

People already hate on Heidi. If she knew any better, she'd give the outfit a little time to breathe before wearing it out to an event where there are cameras present.

Then again, if I were to spend $4,730 on a dress and $745 on a pair of shoes, I'd rock it to sleep.

Louis Vuitton is a bitch.

I was on my usual internet patrol when I stumbled on an article from Torrentfreak that left me in awe.

Apparently, Louis Vuitton is suing artist Nadia Plesner for using (what appears to be) their "signature" print in an image used in her "Simple Living" campaign, a fundraiser that benefits the Divest for Darfur organization.

Plenser drew an image of a young Darfur child holding a Tinkerbell-like dog and sporting a designer bag, made to resemble the famous Louis Vuitton’s Murakami Multicolore canvas pattern. Her goal was to imitate the constant media coverage that celebrities like Paris Hilton were getting and giving it to those who really deserved and needed it. Her image has been selling on t-shirts and posters, raising money for the good cause.

The cause wasn't good enough apparently. LV now demands $7,500 (5,000 Euro) for each day she continues to sell Simple Life products, $7,500 for each day their letter is published on the website and $7,500 a day for using the name ‘Louis Vuitton’ on her website. In addition, they want her to pay their lawyer costs and $15,000 to cover other expenses they have incurred in protecting their ‘intellectual property’.

Who's side are you on, Plenser or Vuitton?
