HELLO: Obsessories is dead to me.

Tuesday, March 25, 2008 0 comments

After much deliberation, I decided to rename my blog from Obsessories to Fashion Roar. Why, you ask? Well, frankly, because I wanted to!

Obsessories was such a quick pick. I knew I was never happy with the name. It was only a matter of time before I decided to change it. Fashion Roar, on the other hand, is more me. It's spunkier, more flavorful, like me!

Or am I just crazy? Let's hope not.

Anyway, this blog has only been alive for two months so I figure it's not such a big deal. If it is, I apologize. Make sure you update your links and bookmarks!

WHAT THE F?: Low-crotch leggings! Do you hate it as much as I do?

Though I prefer to dress a bit on the classy side for my age, I do understand "hip" fashion and I can appreciate what it has to offer. For example, "hip" fashion created all those hipsters over at The Cobra Snake as well as Kanye West. With all its bold colors and funky patterns, what's not to love, right?

WRONG! This is where I absolutely draw the line! I don't care if they sell it on Karmaloop, I pray to God MakeMe's low-crotch leggings doesn't catch on.

Don't call me a fashion prude because I love patterns and I even love patterned tights, but this is just plain ugly. It's something Mischa Barton would wear.

Do you agree or disagree?

Monday, March 24, 2008 3 comments

Last night, I had a dream that I was interviewing a model at a fashion show and I kept referring to Coco Chanel as "Coco Chan-nel". The model laughed in my face before twirling around so fast that she whipped me with her pony tail. Ugh.

To avoid such embarrassment in the future as a fashion journalist, I figured it would be a good idea to look up the pronunciations of famous designers.

Thank God for Google. I found The Budget Fashionista's Guide to Top Designers and I gotta tell you, it's like a crash course in fashion. From Giorgio Armani to Vera Wang, the guide includes the pronunciation of major designer's names as well as a brief history of their role in fashion.

INSPIRATION: What's the quickest way to spruce up boring shoes?

Make a leg cage to wear with the shoes to create a gladiator-style look!

I'm not into spats and I didn't like Susie Bubble's similar DIY project so I figured the next best thing is to get inspired by Michelle from Kingdom of Style.

Michelle created this leg cage that she wears with boring black shoes that gives them a completely new look. I LOVE IT. They look exactly like the gladiator sandals from Chanel's Resort 2007 collection.

Judging from her instructions, they seem pretty simple to make. Two zippers and strips of black elastic straps sewn together in intervals and there you have it! Instant knee-high gladiators whenever you want it.

Whenever I get a chance, I'm definitely making one of these. Granted, they probably won't look as good on me as they do on Michelle, but it's worth a try.

Here she is wearing the leg cage in different styles! All are amazing!

FASHION NEWS: Sarah Jessica Parker pissed off she's the ugliest woman alive!

, , Friday, March 21, 2008 1 comments

Sarah Jessica Parker, who plays fashionista Carried Bradshaw in Sex and the City, has revealed her sorrow over being voted number one in the top 5 "World's Unsexiest Woman Alive" Maxim magazine poll.

Parker, 43, has had a hard time dealing with the news that men do not find her as attractive as advertisers do.

"Do I have big fake boobs, Botox and big lips? No," Parker said. "Do I fit some ideals and standards of some men writing in a men's magazine? Maybe not. Am I really the unsexiest women in the world? Wow!"

Parker also said that the poll affected her husband, actor Matthew Broderick.

"It upset him (Broderick), because it has to do with his judgement too. It's condemnation, it's insane," she said. "What can I do? I can't please everyone."

In describing Parker, Maxim said, "How the hell did this Barbaro-faced broad manage to be the least sexy woman in a group of very unsexy women and still star on a show with 'sex' in the title? Pull your skirt down, Secretariat, we'd rather ride Chris Noth."

Ouch! Talk about BRUTAL!

Other women who rounded off the top five included Amy Winehouse, Sandra Oh, Madonna and Britney Spears.

Personally, I find Sarah Jessica Parker adorable. I had a chance to meet her at Macy's and she just seemed absolutely wonderful. I thought her role as Carrie Bradshaw was perfect. At least she can take comfort in knowing that she is making bank!

WHAT THE F?: Finally! These heels in action!

, Thursday, March 20, 2008 1 comments

When I first saw these shoes last month, I desperately wanted to see someone wearing it fully. I didn't have any luck until today. (Thank you, F&ART!)

These shoes, by Antonio Berardi, have created such a buzz in the fashion blogosphere. It even created a buzz at the New York Times. And it's no wonder! These heels are NUTS!

Berardi said he had been inspired by Latin American music and 1980s post-modernism - "When you walk, it is almost on tiptoe. You look really dainty."

A spokesman for his Paris-based fashion house said: "The shoe has a bigger platform sole which stretches back further than normal and gives support under the arch of the foot. When walking though, you have to put your toe rather than your heel down first and you cannot wear them for very long... They are not dangerous because you would have to lean quite far back before you fell over."

Louise, the woman wearing them, said that she was writing a story about what it's like wearing "crazy" shoes around Milan during fashion week. I should buy some nutty shoes like that and write a story about walking on San Francisco's hills. That would be disastrous.

I just tried walking around in my tip-toes for the last five minutes and I noticed I swayed my hips a lot. It was kinda fun!

WHAT THE F?: Ever wonder what to do with those gift wrapping ribbons after a birthday party?

I have a suggestion! Hot glue them to a black two-inch velvet headband (straight from the 1980's) and you've got yourself one interesting headband!

This headband reminds me of the time I wrapped all the ribbons together after I opened my gifts and fashioned a makeshift bonnet out of them. I wore them around the party. My aunt laughed so hard that Coke came out of her nose!

INSPIRATION: Oversize t-shirt reconstruction...

, Wednesday, March 19, 2008 2 comments

My 21st birthday is coming up and my boyfriend has been bugging me about my present. "Do you want me to take you shopping, or something?" Nonstop, he would bug me day and night. After thinking about it for some time, I came to the conclusion that I wanted a sewing machine. Every time I go thrift shopping, I come home to find that the dress I just bought doesn't fit me the right way (I don't try them on at the store). As a result, I always have to go to the tailor's and pay $10 to fix it. I figured with a sewing machine, I can do it myself.

And then I thought about my high school days thinking I could be a designer. I remember sewing together my cousin's jeans to make a skirt. It didn't work out too well; my cousin took it to my grandmother to have her fix it. To this day, I still hear the screams that came out of my mother's mouth when she walked into my room one Tuesday midnight and saw that I was playing operation on the new clothes she just bought me.

"Why should I buy you clothes if you're just gonna tear them apart?" Geez, Mom. Calm down.

Am I really ready to play doctor with my clothing again?

Seeing Mari's reconstructions of extra-large t-shirts today gave me a little glimmer of hope. Starting from oversized t-shirts, Mari somehow managed to create some unique pieces. My favorite would be the "Jess" dress with rosettes! Totally fab.

Now, all I need is a sewing machine and t-shirts (most likely raided and stolen from my boyfriend's closet) and I'm on my way to similar fab reconstructions! Yay!

Thanks, Mari, for the inspiration!

Seems to me, Heidi is still bitter about Lauren getting all the attention: "Lauren's line is not necessarily something I would wear - she's trying a high-fashion thing, but it's a little overpriced," Montag tells Us. "Mine is fun and flirty for the everyday woman. Most people can't afford $200 for one dress... When we were in school, I was the designer, and she was in, like, product development." That doesn't sound very nice at all.

Being a college student with absolutely no money, Heidi's line is attractive because of the price. However, I don't think she can pay me enough to put her cheap ass clothes on my body.

Cheap girl = cheap clothes.

No thanks.

YUCK: Emma Watson likes bathroom fashion!

Emma Watson walked down the Red Carpet at the Empire Film Awards 2008 in London earlier this week. She look very feminine, with her Spring strapless dress, but added a bit of an edge with her metal bracelet and wide-strap sandals.

She looks good, but her dress raises some questions. I almost want to ask her if she raided the bathroom and decided to wrap the toilet paper around her. Personally, I suggest that she goes back to the hotel and change.

WHAT THE F?: Paint your own Fendi!

, , Thursday, March 13, 2008 0 comments

For only $1,300, you too can buy AND paint your own Fendi bag!

The new white version of their classic baguette (designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi in 1997) is made out of a coated canvas. It comes with 10 Pantone Universe markers to use with your own imagination. Think upscale coloring book you remember from your childhood years.

Have our favorite designers become lazy? I mean, are you REALLY telling me I have to pay $1,300 to paint my own Fendi baguette? Are you serious?!

Let's think about this for a second. I could spend a measly $15 at an art store for a canvas tote and markers or I could spend almost as much as a semester at SFSU for this Fendi baguette. Hmm, I think that's putting it in perspective there.

However, put this in the hands of amazing artists, you've got a one-of-a-kind piece. I just don't know if it's worth it.

Buy yours here!

WHAT THE F?: If there's no string, is it just called a G?

Like many women in the world (men too, I suppose), I have a VERY strong dislike for panty lines. I like to show off my fantastic ass, as my boyfriend would call them, without the the lines, thank you. It just makes my ass look perfect.

Stringless g-strings, however, are a little uncalled for.

Shibue Couture has come out with a stringless g-string. They mold to your figure and become invisible under form fitting clothes. They come with adhesive strips and can be used over and over again.

According to their website, they are perfect for form fitting dresses, high cut dresses and even POLE DANCHING. Oh yes, strippers out there unite! The perfect underwear for you!

Now, I'm left to ask one question: If there's no strings attached, is it just called a G?

Get your stringless g-string here.

YUCK: Looks like Kate Bosworth raided the kitchen..

Kate Bosworth attended the ShoWest premiere of '21' at the Paris Las Vegas on Wednesday. '21', opening March 28th, is a true story based on six MIT students trained in card counting and took millions from Vegas casinos in winnings.

Sounds like a super fun gig to me. My boyfriend and I were talking about becoming professional card counters and winning millions of dollars in Vegas.

I do, however, want to talk to Kate about her dress. It's like she raided the kitchen, grabbed some foil, parchment paper and plastic wrap, and sewed the dress together the night before the premiere.

For looking kinda cheap, Kate sure does pull it off very well. I don't know anyone else who can wear kitchen fashion and get away with it. I mean, look at Tilda Swinton in a black Lanvin garbage bag (I mean dress) at the SAG Awards. Case and point.

YUCK: That's so Raven!

Raven Symone attended the Christian Audigier’s One World Collection show at LA’s Fashion Week.

Now, I have never been invited to a Red Carpet event during LA's Fashion Week, but I thought people were supposed to dress up and look good? If that's the case, WHAT THE HELL WAS RAVEN THINKING?

I flat out just don't get it. I don't know if it's her fat thighs creeping out of her fishnet stockings or the fact that she desperately needs to put on a pair of pants or her big Afro-centric-fro! I still can't figure it out.

All I know is that girl needs to, and I stress NEEDS TO, look in the mirror before she leaves the house.

Spare us, Raven!

YUCK: I don't care, I seriously still like Britney Spears...

I don't care what anyone says about Britney Spears.

I don't care that she can't pull off those stockings with those shoes.

I don't care that she has over worn that fedora to the max.

I don't care that most, if not all, her hair is fake.

I don't care that she spilled something on her dress.

I don't care that she pulled that sweater off of Midge from That '70s Show.

I don't even care that her married boyfriend is still hanging around her.

I don't care at all.

I still love Brit.

HELLO: Busy bee! :)

Tuesday, March 11, 2008 0 comments

I'm really glad to say that this blog and my fashion internship is keeping me a busy bee. I'm even more glad to say that I'm enjoying every minute of it.

This is me coming down my elevator today [okay, so the elevator was actually stationary... I didn't want my camera to capture anything unpleasant resulting from motion sickness]. As you can plainly see, I have my hands full, full, full, full, FULL! Purse filled with everyday essentials, gold tote filled with magazines and school books in my hands. Great.

In the gold tote, I'm lugging around 12 MAGAZINES! Can you believe it? Little ol' me?!

Some of them are about a month old, but I still have yet to finish them. I read my magazines about ten times over, no kidding. I start off by flipping the pages really quickly, reacting passionately to whatever is in the magazine. This is where I decided whether or not I like the magazine. The next couple of times I read it, I read a little bit more intensely. The process proceeds until I've read all the articles in the magazines and can memorize what was in it. That usually happens about two months later.

I love that I have my fashion internship now. Finally, I have a reason to raid the newsstand. Finally, I have a reason to go inside boutiques on Union Street even though I am totally broke. Finally, I have a legitimate reason to spend hours in front of my computer/my boyfriend's computer looking at fashion blogs. Finally, I have a reason to spend the last $20 I have left on a newly reduced pair of pants.

Yes, I am totally enjoying myself.

:)

YUCK: Look! It's Pocahontas! Oh, I mean Mischa...

So Mischa Barton was spotted in West Hollywood earlier this week, wearing what could only be described as a Halloween costume from the Disney Store as Pocahontas.

Hmm...

I know Mischa has had some fashion flaws in the past, but after seeing her recent Iceberg campaign ads, I had hope for her! I guess that all changed... again.

Poor Mischa. She never should've left The OC.

WHAT THE F?: Nubrella... What the???

What's a Nubrella? Well, if you're wondering, it is this little... umm... contraption the nice lady is wearing.

For those of you who don't know (or don't understand, if you're like me), a Nubrella is a canopy-type umbrella fashioned to shield you from the rain, the wind, the cold and possibly even a tornado. [Okay, maybe not, but if I'm gonna have to talk around with a bubble around my head, it better shield me from absolutely anything.] The Nubrella is designed so that you can strap it on you shoulder and walk completely hands free "even in significant winds".

Hmm... I don't know. It's a little too Bubble Boy for me. Right? RIGHT?

Order your Nubrella for only $70.

FASHION NEWS: Fake Anna Wintour Alert!

, Sunday, March 9, 2008 0 comments

This news totally deserves the caption "lollerskates", cause it's THAT good.

Apparently, the Lanvin show in Paris was crashed by an Anna Wintour look-a-like.

For those of you who don't know who Anna Wintour is, she is the woman who is currently holding my dream job position... AKA editor-in-chief of American Vogue.

Anna's look is iconic: short, blonde bob with a slim build and dark sunglasses. The problem with this look is that it's SUPER EASY to copy, case in point: Fake Anna.

Fake Anna showed up in a fur coat and an oversized pair of sunglasses... and of course, the bob. According to someone at the show, it definitely couldn't have been Anna, for she previewed the show hours before and just hopped on a flight to New York. When this was brought to attention, a Lanvin representative snapped, "You don’t think I know Anna Wintour? I know how to do my job." Apparently, he doesn't.

The Fake Anna? Mademoiselle Agnes, a French television personality. The French really do do it better, don't they?

I totally wish I would've thought of this... Imagine all the fashion shows I could've snuck into! Ah!

WHAT THE F?: Horny anyone?

, , Friday, March 7, 2008 0 comments

Here are two models from the House of Holland show, sporting some odd accessories. Horns.

I flat out just don't get this. I am all for creativity. But I think there should be a distinct line between good and bad creativity.

I mean... You wanna wear an eye patch on the runway? Cool, good for you. You wanna wear shoes with spikes on them? Awesome, they look great. You wanna wear antler horns? Yeah, you're stupid.

It just doesn't look good. Really? Horns?

Are horns the new fedoras? Please say no. If I see Britney Spears sporting one, I think I'm gonna have to shoot myself.

BTW, if you're curious, the model wearing the eye patch actually caught pink eye on the flight over to Paris. She wore the eye patch to prevent spreading... so they say.

WHAT THE F?: Sup Clark Kent?!

I want to ask Michael Kors what his insiration was for his Fall 2008 Ready-to-Wear Collection. I bet he was watching All the President's Men and Superman at the same time. I mean, look at these guys! They are the SPITTING image of Clark Kent.

As much as I love Clark Kent, Tom Welling and Brandon Routh, I really hope this doesn't catch on the streets. There's something about guys wearing thick glasses that I don't like. It's really geeky. Not even the cutest guy can pull it off. Well no, that's not an absolute. Brandon Routh looks amazing in thick glasses. Let's say a majority of guy can't pull of thick glasses. They look like they should be playing Star Wars or something.

On a personal note, seeing these guys reaffirm my passion for Journalism. I love it.

YUCK: Why so big Hilary?

, Thursday, March 6, 2008 0 comments

As far as I can remember, I have always been a fan of huge earrings. In high school, I used to wear the biggest pair of pink earrings. I recall my mother and father constantly making fun of me for wearing such big earrings. When my mom stopped laughing, she even warned me about stretching out my ear lobes.

Whatever, I didn't care. Big earrings were the shit, as I used to say in high school. This one, however, takes the cake.

Here is Hilary Duff, at LAX, wearing some HUGGEE Victorian-inspired earrings. I can't really tell if it's made out of metal or if it's fabric. Either way, it's totally confusing me. Why would she wear earrings as big as her head? I just don't get it.

(BTW, this picture was taken last month. I just haven't been reading my celebrity gossip as of late.)

WHAT THE F?: Catherine Meuter's Folded Origami Shoes

, Tuesday, March 4, 2008 0 comments

I've always had a hard time editing my clothing, accessories and shoes when it comes to packing. I always want to bring 12 trunks with me, even if it's for a weekend with my brothers and parents or a week skiing in Utah with my boyfriend and his mom. It totally doesn't matter; I bring about 8 outfits with 2 shoes and jewelry options. And I'm not even exaggerating (okay, I am... sorta). I figure I should invest in these folded origami shoes to help me save space when packing.

Catherine Meuter has designed these shoes that fold flat, making it easier to store and pack for vacations. They're designed with reinforced parts that get folded and fixed by the wearer (or the wearer's boyfriend, in my case since I probably won't understand the assembly instructions).

From an aesthetic point of view, the shoes have a very geometric and architectural form, very 'in' for Spring. I can see it in fuchsia, purple, orange or maybe even a mustard yellow. Anything bold and bright would fit perfectly.

It would be awesome if Puma were to adopt a similar design and add flexibility to their shoes. That would make it so much easier for me to lug a pair of sneakers around from my apartment to school to the gym.

(BTW, I labeled this entry "Fashion Confusion" only cause I have never seen shoes built like this and it confused me fore a second! The next second consisted me of saying "Oooo! Cool!")
